Following the growing awareness for Fancy Color Diamonds the Natural Blue Diamond has successfully established itself in the market. Blue Diamonds account for less than 0.1% of the output of the Premier mine, which is the only mine in the world with an appreciable production of natural blue diamonds. Of the ten colored diamonds that drew the highest bids, six of those ten were blue diamonds, rating values as high as $550,000 to $580,000 per carat.
In 2007, a 6.04 carat Emerald cut that was graded by GIA as Fancy Vivid Blue, flawless diamond, was sold for a record price of $7.98 million in a Sotheby’s auction in Hong Kong, at $1.32 million per carat.
The color of blue can vary from very pale blue to deep and dark blue. Pure colors such as Fancy Intense Blue & Fancy Vivid blue are extremely rare and valuable and can be considered to be an excellent investment.
